Jones Ferry Road Boil Water Advisory Lifted; Road Repairs Complete 

June 29, 2024, 4:00 p.m. 

The boil water advisory in effect for 47 customers following water line repairs on Jones Ferry Road Thursday and Friday has been lifted. Road repairs to the section of Jones Ferry Road excavated during repairs are complete and normal through traffic is restored.  

Customers in any part of OWASA’s service area may continue to see discoloration in their water into the weekend. These customers should run their cold water through bathtub faucets until the water is clear. The water remains safe to drink.

Water Line Repairs Complete on Jones Ferry Road; Precautionary Boil Water Advisories in Effect; Road Closure Continues  

June 28, 2024, 6:00 p.m. 

The water lines in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant have been repaired and service restored to the 48 Carrboro customers affected by the water outage. A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for those customers until water samples testing results confirm that the water is safe to drink. The OWASA Water Wagon is located behind the Carrboro Civic Center at 108 Bim Street and is available for residents to use to fill drinking water containers until 6 p.m. today. Information about the affected area is on our online Active Boil Water Advisory map. 

Road repair has begun and will continue through the evening and into Saturday morning. In the meantime, Jones Ferry remains closed to through traffic from David Road to Laurel Avenue. 

Due to the size of the water line break, customers in any part of OWASA’s service area may continue to see discoloration in their water into the weekend. These customers should run their cold water through bathtub faucets until the water is clear. The water remains safe to drink. 

Customers located near the intersection of Highway 54 and Barbee Chapel may continue to see lower-than-normal water pressure as we continue to use our interconnection with the City of Durham to ensure adequate water to customers until the boil water advisories are lifted.

Repair Continues for Water Line on Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro; Road Closure to Continue into Next Week 

June 28, 2024, 9:00 a.m. 

OWASA crews are continuing work to repair a 20-inch water line in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro. Work continued through the night and repairs are expected to continue through the day.  

Following the completion of the water line repair, road repairs will begin. Updates on road closures will be provided as repairs progress. These repairs will likely cause the road closure to continue into next week. 

In order to safely and efficiently repair the 20-inch water line, OWASA had to temporarily stop water service to about 50 customers in Carrboro yesterday around noon. These customers were notified directly. Information about the affected area is on our online Active Boil Water Advisory map. 

Due to the size of the water line break, customers in any part of OWASA’s service area may continue to see discoloration in their water. These customers should run their cold water through bathtub faucets until the water is clear. The water remains safe to drink.

OWASA is turning the interconnection with the City of Durham water back on while crews continue to make repairs to the water line on Jones Ferry Road. Customers near the interconnection of Highway 54 and Barbee Chapel may experience drops in water pressure. Water Line Repairs Continue on Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro; Road Remains Closed 

June 27, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

OWASA crews are continuing work to repair a 20-inch water line in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro. Excavation for repairs is underway and work will continue through the night. Water line repairs are expected to be complete within 8-20 hours. 

Following the completion of the water line repair, road repairs will begin. Updates on road closures will be provided as repairs progress. These repairs could cause road closures into the weekend. 

 

In order to safely and efficiently repair the 20-inch water line, OWASA had to temporarily cut water service to about 50 customers in Carrboro. These customers have been notified directly. Information about the affected area is on our online Active Boil Water Advisory map.

Normal water pressure should now be restored to customers located near the intersection of Highway 54 and Barbee Chapel who were previously notified of lower-than-normal water pressures.

OWASA crews are continuing work to repair a 20-inch water line in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro. Excavation for repairs is underway. Following the completion of the water line repair, road repairs will begin. Updates on road closures will be provided as repairs progress.  

Jones Ferry Road is closed from Bim Street to Barnes Street and is closed to through traffic between Davie Road and Laurel Avenue. Chapel Hill Transit’s J route is detouring using Davie Road and Fidelity Street. A temporary stop is located outside the closure near Collins Crossing Apartments. 

Water system pressure has been maintained beyond the immediate area and most customers are not expected to experience impacts to their water service. Some customers may see discoloration in their water. These customers should run their cold water through bathtub faucets until the water is clear. Customers affected by the line break and repair have been notified directly. 

Due to a precautionary activation of OWASA’s Highway 54 interconnection with the City of Durham, OWASA customers located near the intersection of Highway 54 and Barbee Chapel Road may experience slightly reduced water pressure.  These customers have been notified directly.

OWASA Repairing Water Line on Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro 

June 27, 2024, 8:30 a.m. 

OWASA is repairing a water line in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro.  

Water system pressure has been maintained beyond the immediate area and most customers are not expected to experience impacts to their water service. Any customers who will be affected by the main break and repair will be notified directly.  

Some customers may see discoloration in their water. These customers should run their water until the water is clear before drinking.  

OWASA asks that customers notify OWASA if they experience loss of water pressure by calling customer service at 919-537-4343.  

Jones Ferry Road is shut down in front of the OWASA campus at 400 Jones Ferry Road in Carrboro between Bim and Barnes; the road is closed to through traffic between Laurel and Davie. The next update will be issued at noon on road closure and the water main repairs.
