OWASA Board of Directors Meeting Summary – January 9, 2025

On January 9, 2025, the OWASA Board of Directors held their first meeting of the new year. Many important updates and initiatives were discussed including the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 budget and a legislative advocacy contract for PFAS project funding. Additional updates include:

  • Approved a resolution authorizing staff to seek public comment revisions to the Ordinance for the Control of Backflow and Cross Connection from Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and UNC-Chapel Hill.
  • Received an update on permitting and capacity analysis for development projects in the Old Chapel Hill Road and White Oak Drive area in Chapel Hill.
  • Approved a resolution authorizing general counsel to institute action to acquire the property at 131 Fidelty Street in Carrboro by eminent domain.
  • Received an update on the PFAS Communications Plan.

Additionally, eight local students were honored at the meeting for completing the 2024 OWASA Youth Water Academy program. Graduates of the 5-week program learned about OWASA’s operations from how we treat water and wastewater to water governance. Congratulations to the 2024 Youth Water Academy graduates!
