Federal Regulators: Drinking Water Remains Safe During COVID-19

Public health is our priority. Our traditional drinking water treatment involves disinfection that removes and kills pathogens, including viruses.

Based on the current evidence from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Environmental Protection Agency, the risk to drinking water supplies becoming contaminated by COVID-19 remains low. Customers can continue to use tap water as normal for drinking, hygiene, and cooking purposes.

Wastewater treatment processes are also effective in removing any remaining contaminants, according to guidance from the EPA.

OWASA is continuing to monitor and prepare for the spread of COVID-19 to ensure that water and wastewater services in our service area are active and safe for the duration of the incident.

FAQ documents have been published by the CDC and EPA regarding the impact of COVID-19 on water and wastewater services.
