27 Apr OWASA Board of Directors Meeting Summary for April 22
OWASA’s Board of Directors met virtually on Thursday, April 22, 2021, and considered an agenda that included extending access to the boat launch area at University Lake.
The Board of Directors is currently meeting virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
University Lake Access
The Board approved extending access to the boat launch area at University Lake and additional visitors at OWASA’s reservoirs for recreational purposes for the 2021 recreation season.
COVID-19 Pandemic Response
The Board received an update on OWASA’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure we continue to provide the Carrboro and Chapel Hill communities with high-quality and reliable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water services throughout the pandemic. Staff who have been working remotely, will return to the office on May 17.
Financial Report
The Board received the financial report for the nine-month period ended March 31, 2021. All but one of OWASA’s financial performance targets were met. Total income for the period was roughly $484,000 greater than budget and operating expenses were about $1.5 million less than budget.
Strategic Plan
The Board provided feedback on a draft process for developing OWASA’s new strategic plan. The Board is expected to vote on a process in May.
Board Officer Nominations
The Board nominated Board Members for election as Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary of the Board of Directors which is scheduled for June 10, 2021.

The Board will hold its next meeting remotely on Thursday, May 13, 2021, via Microsoft Teams at 6 p.m.; a link will be provided here.
