04 Sep OWASA Reservoirs Closed Labor Day; 2020 Season Closing Date Announced
Orange Water and Sewer Authority would like to thank everyone who has worked with us over the last few months to safely open Cane Creek Reservoir and University Lake for a recreation season in 2020, although it has looked much different than in years past.
As we are entering September, we wanted to provide an update on this year’s recreation season.
The reservoirs will not be open for recreation on Labor Day this year. We feel this is in the best interest to continue promoting the health and safety of our staff and visitors.
Additionally, OWASA will be closing the recreation season at Cane Creek on Saturday, October 31, and University Lake on Sunday, November 1. The reservation system will remain in place as it has been for the remainder of the season, with the application window for the upcoming weekend being available each week on OWASA’s website.
Current COVID-19-related protocols require additional time and resources from our staff, and we are making this decision to allow for more time to be spent on efforts to properly winterize the facilities and perform other tasks that will take more time than normal this year because of the pandemic.
We are planning to begin the winter birding season on Wednesday, November 4, under the same protocols for social distancing and face coverings that have been in place. If demand for birding reaches a level where we can not safely maintain social distancing, OWASA will implement a reservation system similar to what was in place for the recreation season.
We do very much appreciate your continued interest in recreation opportunities at OWASA’s reservoirs, and we sincerely thank you for following safety guidelines this year to protect visitors and our staff.
